How Does a Hydrafacial Work?

Hydrafacial procedures are very quick and simple. They can often be completed in a single session, but some clients might require several appointments depending on the quality and appearance of their skin. Before agreeing to perform the procedure, your facial plastic surgeon will thoroughly examine the condition of your skin to assess whether or not this treatment is right for you. While it’s not an overly invasive treatment option, it does involve deep pore cleansing, which means that certain skin conditions could be exacerbated by the treatment.

Hydrafacials are especially effective for those battling acne and signs of aging including wrinkles, marionette lines, fine lines, and crows’ feet. With a patented 4 in 1 Vortex Technology system, the Hydrafacial system has the capacity to perform numerous facial cleansing and rejuvenating functions all in a single treatment. The procedure involves the following processes:

Skin Cleansing

One of the major selling points of the Hydrafacial procedure is the deep cleansing component. The Hydrafacial technology comes with a Vortex cleansing piece that essentially sucks out all of the dirt, oil, and other impurities from the surface of your skin, particularly in the forehead, T-Zone, and chin areas.

A combination of lactic acid and glucosamine HCI along with algae (which is rich in anti-oxidants) is used to cleanse, condition, and moisturize the skin for optimal results. Basically, this is like a less invasive and much more satisfying version of microdermabrasion.

Deeper Exfoliation for Radiant Skin

After thoroughly cleansing the skin, the next step is to administer a deep exfoliating treatment. During this process, the esthetician will use two different types of tips depending on the condition of your skin. One is slightly more aggressive, while the other is ideal for sensitive skin conditions. The esthetician will create a mixture of glycolic acid and salicylic acid to provide a deep skin exfoliation, which has been proven to effectively prevent acne breakouts.

Extracting Deep-Ridden Impurities

The third step in the procedure involves using a stronger suction-like tip along with Beta-HD to carefully and thoroughly extract deep-ridden skin impurities including dirt, oil, makeup, blackheads, and sebum from your open pores. While this is happening, the device simultaneously releases a hydrating honey extract along with spiraea ulmaria flower extract, which soothes the skin and prevents pain or discomfort.

Serum Infusions

The fourth and final step in the procedure involves applying serum infusions to the skin. Essentially, this is a mixture of peptides (copper, zinc, and magnesium), hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump up your skin, and antioxidants (green tea extracts and horse chestnut seed) to protect the skin from damages and impurities. This combination is appropriately called Antiox and it also contains arnica flower extract and red algae extract, which smoothen and brighten the skin respectively.

The Advantages of a Hydrafacial

Aside from the abovementioned benefits of this highly sought-after treatment, there are a few other perks to getting a Hydrafacial.

It’s Suitable for Most Skin Conditions

Skin conditions come in all shapes and sizes and they don’t discriminate based on age. Luckily, neither does the Hydrafacial skin treatment. People of pretty much all ages and stages in life—from adolescents experiencing acne breakouts, to middle-aged adults developing wrinkles and fine lines, to elderly adults combating sunspots and sunken skin—can all benefit from this treatment.

However, it’s worth noting that people with certain skin conditions like rosacea, sunburns, and active rashes should forego this treatment because some of the components involved could actually worsen these skin conditions. Pregnant women should also abstain from getting a Hydrafacial because some of the ingredients, particularly, salicylic acid, haven’t been tested or proven to be safe for expecting mothers.

Consistent Experience and Results

Since the Hydrafacial relies more on high-end technology than it does on human skill, the client experience and results are fairly consistent across the board. Clients often feel calm and relaxed throughout the procedure because it pretty much feels like a deep facial cleanse and massage all in one. The system is easy to use and treatments can be adjusted according to each client’s unique skin requirements.

No Side Effects or Downtime

Plus, because this facial utilizes a number of natural ingredients to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, hydrate, and soften the skin, clients are less likely to experience any side effects like inflammation, redness, or scarring. Downtime is non-existent as recovery is unnecessary and clients can resume their regular lifestyles immediately following the procedure.

Time-Effective

As mentioned, there’s no downtime involved with the Hydrafacial procedure. Clients can have the procedure done during their lunch breaks at work and then carry on with the rest of their day feeling well-rested, rejuvenated, and confident. On average, hydrafacials can be completed within 30 minutes or less, but some clients may prefer to opt for a longer treatment depending on their needs.

Long-Lasting Effects

Without any interference, results can last up to a few weeks. To sustain long-term results, it’s recommended that clients undergo Hydrafacial treatments at least once a month. But there are certain things you can do in your daily life to maximize the effects of the Hydrafacial and make them last longer. The two most important things are drinking lots of water every day and apply moisturizer regularly to keep your skin soft and smooth.

Are Hydrafacial and Chemical Peels Similar?

Yes, a Hydrafacial and traditional chemical peels do share a lot of similarities, including the following:

  • The main goal is to reveal healthy and beautiful skin
  • They both provide deep cleansing and exfoliation

However, the main difference between a Hydrafacial and a chemical peel is that the former cleanses the skin without necessarily removing the top layer. Also, there’s no downtime, recovery period, or side effects affiliated with the Hydrafacial whereas chemical peels can result in some scarring and will require some recovery time.
