Do Away With the Embarrassing Turkey Wattle

Do Away With the Embarrassing Turkey Wattle

Let’s get straight to the facts – for most of us, aging is not the most graceful process. Those fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin can be quite embarrassing and can cause many self-confidence issues. The turkey-wattle neck is one such issue that comes along with the aging process.

What Is a Turkey-Wattle Neck?

As a person ages, the skin loses its elasticity. This is especially true for face and neck skin, which is the most delicate of all. This loss of elasticity causes the skin around the neck and jawline to sag.

Turkey-wattle neck can make a slim person appear heavier and out of shape. For some people, turkey-wattle neck can become a major issue and can make them look unattractive and older than their actual age. Luckily for them, neck lift surgery is an option to get back their sharp jawline and slender neck.

What Is the Neck Lift and How Is It Performed?

The neck lift is a surgical procedure performed in a hospital setting, where the skin around your neck is lifted, excess skin is surgically removed, and the skin is tightened to better fit the contours of your face. The muscles of the neck are tightened with the help of internal sutures. The fat on the neck, if any, is sucked out using liposuction to restore the original shape of the neck.

General anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation is administered to the patient at the start of the procedure. Once the patient is sedated, the doctor makes incisions to get easy access to the areas around the neck. Excess skin is then surgically removed, and the skin around the neck is smoothed out around the jawline to create a more lifted, tightened look.

After the platysmal muscles are tightened and the excess fat is removed, the incisions are closed using sutures. The procedure takes around one to three hours to perform.

The Recovery Process

After surgery, your face will be bandaged and covered. The bandages will be removed after about four to five days. A degree of temporary bruising and swelling is expected. Any inflammation will start to fade within a week. The patient might be put on antibiotics to avoid the risk of infections.

Anti-inflammatory pills and painkillers will be prescribed to relieve the pain and swelling. The patient may experience temporary numbness in the neck area for a few days after the surgery.

Ideal Candidates

For people with issues like too much fat in the neck area, sagging loose skin near the jawline, and bands of drooping muscles around the jawline and the chin, the neck lift is a great way to restore youthfulness.
