This family of hyaluronic acid fillers offers a smooth cross-linked product that is ideal for restoring volume to the face and addressing fine to deep wrinkles and grooves on the face. This is one of the first FDA-approved fillers in the U.S., but we have been fortunate to have had these fillers available in Canada for much longer.
The addition of a local anesthetic to the hyaluronic acid has made the product much easier and more comfortable to inject. These Juvéderm® products are distinguished by the XC in their names.
The available products from Juvéderm are:
- Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra XC are used for volumizing and contouring facial wrinkles, augmenting lips and smoothing facial soft tissue irregularities. These products may last 6 to 12 months depending on the patient and the injection technique.
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC are ideal for deeper grooves and folds and adding volume to facial structures. These products may last 6 to 12 months depending on the patient and the injection technique
- Juvéderm Voluma XC is used to add volume to the cheek area and create a subtle lift effect. Voluma may last up to two years.
Am I candidate for Juvéderm?
Dr. Gantous will perform a thorough examination and assess your needs before recommending the ideal product for you. Most people are able to undergo this treatment in a few minutes in the office with no down time.
Are there any risks?
Patients with allergies to the product or other hyaluronic acid fillers should not be injected. Those allergic to lidocaine should not use any of XC products. Some patients will suffer from temporary tenderness in the injection site, swelling, bruising and/or itchiness. These symptoms occur in about five percent of people injected and are of mild-to-moderate severity.
