How Long Does Restylane Last?

Ask people the one thing they fear the most and many will reply “getting old.” Old age, apart from resulting in sensory changes, can open a Pandora’s box of skin troubles. Deep wrinkles, acne scars, and fine lines start to appear, and the lips start sagging, often resulting in a dull appearance.

Many people wrongly believe that there is nothing they can do to reverse aging. They learn to live with their wrinkles and sagging skin without realizing that a solution is within reach. Gone are the days when people had no choice but to experience the frustration of not being able to do anything about their aging skin.

Today, cosmetic science has answers to all your skin issues. To reverse the effects of aging, surgeons all over the world perform a number of surgeries every day. These procedures, however, have their fair share of risks.

For people who want younger-looking skin but dread the idea of going under the knife, Restylane may be the answer. Restylane is only minimally invasive, which means you can return to your normal life immediately after the procedure, no downtime required.

Restylane

Approved by the FDA, Restylane is a dermal filler produced in controlled conditions. It is primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in our skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules, restoring skin volume. When injected into the skin, the dermal filler helps to fill in wrinkles and folds and can reduce wrinkles by up to 80 percent.

The Restylane Treatment Process

To help patients avoid discomfort and pain, Dr. Gantous can administer a topical anesthetic to the skin before injection of Restylane. Once the anesthetic takes effect, he starts injecting precise amounts of the dermal filler into the skin. The entire process can take anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes. Restylane can also be used for lip enhancement.

The Results That Restylane Can Provide

One of the major benefits of Restylane is that in most cases, patients do not have to wait months or even weeks for results. In many cases, people opting for the procedure start experiencing a reduction in wrinkles and facial folds within three to five days from the treatment. Restylane can last up to 12 months depending on the patient’s condition.

Ideal Candidates

An ideal candidate for Restylane is:

• Over 21 years of age
• Free of severe allergies
• Not experiencing inflammation in or around the treatment area
• Not undergoing immunosuppressive therapy
• Not pregnant or breastfeeding

In addition to considering these factors, Dr. Gantous will ask several questions and conduct tests to ensure that you are a good candidate.

Preparation for the Treatment

Before a Restylane treatment, patients must do three things:

• Avoid consuming alcohol 24 hours before the process.
• Stop using anti-aging and topical products three days before the procedure.
• Forego blood thinners and supplements.

Post-Procedure Care

After coming in for Restylane injections, patients should follow these directions:

• Avoid consuming alcohol for at least six hours after the process.
• Avoid partaking in physically demanding activities for at least six hours after the procedure.
• Apply sunscreen to the treatment area.
• Avoid sunbathing and tanning and steer clear of hot tubs and saunas.
