The Science Behind Dysport Treatments

Dysport is a prescription injection that contains a version of the toxin Botulinum. It is used to treat wrinkles and is also beneficial for treating many health conditions, such as muscle spasms.

Dysport – How Does It Work?

Dysport is administered as an injection. It is made from a type of toxin (Botulinum toxin type A) that can block nerve activity. When you receive a Dysport injection, the muscles in that area can’t interact with the nerves. Without this communication, muscles are not able to contract. Without muscle contraction, wrinkles can’t form. When wrinkles are already present on the face, the toxin in Dysport can make the area smoother by blocking muscle movement.

Lack of muscle movement from Dysport use is also useful in treating conditions like cervical dystonia. In this condition, severe spasms can occur in the neck muscles. Dysport is also beneficial to use in treating muscle stiffness in the limbs. If you experience stiffness or spasms in your toes, ankles, finger, or wrists, use of Dysport can help in treating the problem.

Dysport treatment is similar to Botox, as both are made from the same toxin. But there are several differences in both these products:

• Dysport contains less protein compared to Botox. This means that Dysport will be less prone to antibody attacks and will remain effective for a longer duration. Antibodies protect the body from foreign particles. If antibodies are lower in number, the effects of a protein may last longer.

• Due to the molecular structure of Dysport, this product takes less time to be effective than other similar treatments.

• Due to its composition, Dysport can spread to other areas from the injection site. For broader skin areas such as armpits and forehead, this can be an advantage. A small portion of Dysport can spread and be effective in making muscles inactive.

Is Dysport Treatment Effective?

Dysport is as effective, if not more effective, as its closest competitor, Botox. The onset time of Dysport is shorter – it can begin to show results in a day or two. This can be a very good thing for those who need an anti-wrinkle treatment that works within a few days.

Dysport has been in use longer in other parts of the world than in the USA, and this is one of the reasons the name may sound less familiar than other treatments. It was approved for use by the FDA in 2009. When the procedure is carried by a doctor, use of Dysport is quite safe. The Botulinum toxin is very effective in imparting the skin with a smoother texture.

If you use any medicine or are planning a pregnancy, inform your doctor about it before using Dysport.
